چکیده

Providing a clear description of the theory of polydisperse multiphase flows, with emphasis on the mesoscale modeling approach and its relationship with microscale and macroscale models, this all-inclusive introduction is ideal, whether you are working in industry or academia. Theory is linked to practice through discussions of key real-world cases (particle/droplet/bubble coalescence, breakup, nucleation, advection and diffusion, and physicaland phase-space), providing valuable experience in simulating systems that can be applied to your own applications. Practical cases of QMOM, DQMOM, CQMOM, EQMOM, and ECQMOM are also discussed and compared, as are realizable finite-volume methods. This provides the tools you need to use quadrature-based moment methods, choose from the many available options, and design high-order numerical methods that guarantee realizable moment sets. In addition to the numerous practical examples, Matlab scripts for several algorithms are also provided, so you can apply the methods described to practical problems straight away.

Eulerian modelling and computational fluid dynamics simulation of mono and polydisperse fluidized suspension

i Abstract This research project is concerned with the Eulerian-Eulerian mathematical modelling of fluidized suspensions. We first derive new averaged equations of motion for particulate systems made up of a finite number of monodisperse particle classes; this clarifies the mathematical origin and physical meaning of the terms featuring in the equations and allows to attain a well-posed multiph...

Computing third-order models of effective material behavior for polydisperse particulate composites using well-resolved higher order statistical descriptors

Accurately characterizing and modeling random heterogeneous media such as energetic materials, geomaterials, and other granular systems is essential to improving design and developing new material formulations. The focus of this study is to estimate and bound the effective thermo-mechanical behavior using well-resolved statistical descriptions of polydisperse particulate systems to develop micr...

Application of the Genetic Algorithm to Calculate the Interaction Parameters for Multiphase and Multicomponent Systems

A method based on the Genetic Algorithm (GA) was developed to study the phase behavior of multicomponent and multiphase systems. Upon application of the GA to the thermodynamic models which are commonly used to study the VLE, VLLE and LLE phase equilibria, the physically meaningful values for the Binary Interaction Parameters (BIP) of the models were obtained. Using the method proposed in t...

Validation of Cfd Models for Mono- and Polydisperse Air-water Two-phase Flows in Pipes

Many flow regimes in Nuclear Reactor Safety (NRS) Research are characterized by multiphase flows, where one of the phases is continuous and the other phase consists of gas or vapor of the liquid phase. The validation of the CFD multiphase flow models against detailed experimental data for simplified flow configurations is a basic requirement for the accurate prediction of more complex flows, li...

A preconditioned solver for sharp resolution of multiphase flows at all Mach numbers

A preconditioned five-equation two-phase model coupled with an interface sharpening technique is introduced for simulation of a wide range of multiphase flows with both high and low Mach regimes. Harten-Lax-van Leer-Contact (HLLC) Riemann solver is implemented for solving the discretized equations while tangent of hyperbola for interface capturing (THINC) interface sharpening method is applied ...
